Well! Here we go again, another dark cloud hangs over our proud Creole culture. Again we are faced with the strong possibility of losing St. Augustine Catholic Church as a parish in New Orleans, La.
It is the oldest continuing Creole/African American church in the U.S., the foundation of our Creole culture and the place where Henriette Delille vowed her dedication to the poor.
There can be no greater moment than now for all Creole/ African Americans people to stand as one and not let this irresponsible act destroy our Creole heritage. Not only should St. Augustine’s remain open as a parish church but it should be recognized as a historical part of our Creole Culture. It is about time we put a stop to these continuing acts of cultural genocide. Our culture must be preserved and we must see to it that no one can allow this to happen.
St. Augustine Church is a thriving church with a congregation dedicated in keeping it alive. It is important that we all write and give as much support as needed to keep our culture alive. You can keep St Augustine from closing by contacting the New Orleans Archdiocese "Archbishop Hughes" who has made this decision. The Louisiana State representatives, your local newspaper, the New Orleans Times Picayune and whatever it takes to get the word out, most of all by becoming an “associate member” and contributing what you can to show your support (Petition) for the parish church.
Lets show the world that we are united in our effort to preserve our Creole heritage.
