Thank you so much for your site. My progenitor was Pierre Baptiste born ca 1746, Of Mobile, AL. Pierre aquired 623 acres of land on the West side of Mobile Bay at Belle Fontaine on Fowl River, from Pierre Rochon in 1780. He also was sole heir to 1279 acres at present day Coden, AL from "widow Huet". Guillume Huet and wife Perrine had four children in 1720's. Duaghter Henriette Huet had two children by Creole Jean Baptiste Baudreau, s/o Jean Baptiste Baudreau dit Graveline and wife Suzanne. Jean Baptiste was married at the time, and later torn at wheel by French government in New Orleans. Pierre Baptiste was thought to be illegitemant son of this liason. Recent y-DNA evidence from Graveline and Baptiste male descendants disprove that therory. Tring to now identify the families around him, the Rochon's and Demouy's needed reseach. Your wonderful site gave us extensive information on both families. Thank you so much! Grateful.... Jan Davis-Shannon

Hi, I just ran across this site looking for information for a school project. I have always been confused about the culture on my father's side of my family because they don't talk about it. The last name is Roque and they appear to have come from the same area as the Cane River Creoles. My Grandmother, Maude Ethel Roque moved from Natchitoches to Chicago and most of her children followed her at some point. My Grandfather Francis Roque died sometime in the 1940's. My Roque Aunts and Uncles also married several people with the last name of LeCour and Metoyer.I was shocked to find these names listed and the area where they were from seeming to be characterized as a cultural landmark, when I have lived 42 years not realizing I was part of a rich culture. Thank you for your site. kim
